Great Northern: Outdoor Adventure Festival Comes to Minnesota

We are the North. Let’s celebrate it.

Northerners don’t apologize for winter — they embrace it. The Great Northern, a collaborative winter festival created by event leaders in the Twin Cities, is bringing ten days of outdoor dining and seasonal gatherings to Minneapolis and St. Paul. It’s a chance to celebrate this place we call home and the cold-weather traditions that define it.

This year’s program includes a range of events, from the U.S. Pond Hockey Tournament and a popup at the St. Paul Farmers Market to a Surly Beer Garden at The Loppet Ski Festival and the Beer Dabbler Winter Carnival. One standout is Winter Table, a special dinner from the chefs of Spoon and Stable, Meritage and The Bachelor Farmer. For this event, a North Loop street in Minneapolis will be closed to create a luminary-lined communal table for 100 guests, warmed by bonfires and accompanied by seafood towers, Faribault Woolen Mill blankets and handmade s’mores kits.

Expect memorable outdoor experiences designed to highlight local food, craft beer, live winter activities and cozy moments that turn cold nights into something magical. Whether you’re coming for competitive pond hockey, a beer garden, or an intimate long-table dinner, the festival offers curated ways to enjoy winter together.
