While shopping at Sprouts Market in Phoenix recently, I noticed a new product in the frozen section: Welch’s pre-packaged frozen smoothie kits.

Making smoothies isn’t complicated — cut up fruit, add yogurt or milk, maybe a spice, and blend. I enjoy experimenting with combinations, so I decided to pick up two of the Welch’s kits on a buy-one-get-one-free sale: one Mixed Berry and one Strawberry Mango.
My Review of Welch’s Strawberry Mango Frozen Smoothie Kit
The Strawberry Mango kit contained two frozen discs of low-fat Greek yogurt plus frozen diced mango and strawberry. The package directions call for adding 1 cup skim milk and 1/4 cup Welch’s 100% juice before blending. I couldn’t find the Welch’s juice at Sprouts, so I squeezed two fresh oranges instead and used 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk rather than cow’s milk.

Using almond milk and fresh orange juice changed the final flavor and nutrition slightly, but the kit still made a straightforward smoothie in minutes. For convenience, the kit is handy: everything is portioned and frozen, so prep time is minimal.

Additional Info
Below is the nutrition label for the smoothie I prepared using almond milk and fresh orange juice instead of the package recommendations.

I found the kit to be a convenient option for quick homemade smoothies, especially when time is limited. The portioning and frozen fruit make preparation fast, but the kits are somewhat pricey for the amount provided. My buy-one-get-one-free purchase made it a great value, but generally I prefer buying ingredients separately because it gives more flexibility and can be more cost-effective.
The taste of the Strawberry Mango kit was good, and like any smoothie you can adjust it by adding extras to suit your preferences.
