Weekend Update: Life, Gardening, and Nursery News

It’s been a while since I shared a personal Weekend Wonders update. If you’re new here (or you skimmed past the others), these posts are a little peek into my life — what I’ve been up to lately and what’s occupying my busy mind. I enjoy rereading my earlier Weekend Wonders posts and I’m glad to be bringing them back. I plan to publish at least one each month and use them to update you on baby Britnell, who is due in August if you missed the announcement.

Work has been nonstop. My videography business is going really well and has kept me busier than I expected. I currently have a growing waitlist for client work and my free time has all but disappeared. Weekends? What are those anymore?

On a brighter note, I’m through 25 weeks of pregnancy with very few symptoms. I feel fortunate I can still be this active and productive — I’ve heard from many other moms-to-be that even simple tasks like walking into the kitchen can cause nausea, so I’m especially grateful this hasn’t been my experience.

Baby Britnell is finally showing more — at five months I complained about having no bump, and three weeks later I definitely look more pregnant. Full disclosure: I might be slightly pushing my belly out for the photos. Just slightly.

I’ve been having a blast creating a baby registry. It’s about half adorable, nonessential items (“but how cute is this?”) and half practical necessities like a car seat and bottles. I’m open to suggestions for baby must-haves — and also the not-quite-essential but still super cute stuff.

So far we’ve purchased the crib and an amazing chest of drawers that doubles as a changing table. Growing up I used to call them “chester drawers,” and the name still slips out sometimes. I taped pieces of paper to the wall as I tried to decide how many hexagon shelves to order to hang above the changing table.

Mr. Britnell thinks we should wait to buy other items until after the baby showers, but I’m tempted to buy everything now. If you find it hard to make a registry without revealing the baby’s sex, I found it easier than expected — we lean toward neutral styles and I pick items with the idea they’ll be used for baby number two as well.

Those white baby shoes pictured at the start of the post are mine from when I was a baby. I “borrowed” them from my mom’s house because I thought they’d make a sentimental nursery decoration. Now I just need to see if we can find a pair of Mr. Britnell’s baby shoes to match.

I also started working on the garden. Nashville has had an unusually warm spring, so we’ve skipped many spring crops and jumped straight into summer plantings — tomatoes, peppers, and several varieties of squash in the prepared 40-foot garden space. I squeezed in as much as I could. Mr. Britnell has promised to help more this summer, which will be necessary as I head into the hottest months of pregnancy.

I’d hoped to include a spring garden update here, but April lived up to its reputation: it rained all weekend — nonstop. Because of the weather I used the time to catch up on blogging and to edit a few videos I shot for myself months ago, not for client work. It felt good to make progress on personal projects during a busy season.

That’s the bulk of my rambling for today. I have a full week ahead while I prepare for a five-day vacation next weekend. I’m determined to step away from work while we’re gone, which means I’m in hyperdrive trying to finish everything before we leave. Wish me luck.

Have a lovely week, friends!
