Caprese Skewers are the ultimate appetizer! Reduced balsamic drizzled over fresh mozzarella, basil leaves, and sweet tomatoes — a guaranteed crowd pleaser.
Summer produce is at its best right now, and with gardens overflowing it’s the perfect time to make simple, fresh dishes. Caprese is one of the most beloved flavor combinations: ripe tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, and fragrant basil. These Caprese skewers are an easy, elegant way to serve those classic flavors at parties, picnics, or casual family gatherings.

The traditional Caprese features sliced fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, basil, and a finishing splash of balsamic. These skewers let you present that classic combination in bite-sized form. You can keep it simple with a balsamic glaze, or make an herb- and garlic-infused olive oil for a bright, savory twist — both versions are delicious and easy to prepare.
All you need for these easy Caprese Skewers:
- Grape or cherry tomatoes
- Fresh mozzarella (bite-sized pieces or bocconcini)
- Olive oil (for the infused oil) or a reduced balsamic/balsamic glaze
- For oregano-infused oil: dried oregano, garlic powder, and sea salt (adjust to taste)
- Fresh basil leaves (for the balsamic-glazed version)
- Toothpicks or small skewers for serving

Course: Gluten Free Appetizers
Ingredients
- Grape or cherry tomatoes
- 8 oz fresh mozzarella, cut into bite-sized pieces
- Toothpicks or small skewers for serving
For oregano-infused oil
- 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder (or more to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
For balsamic-glazed version
- Fresh basil leaves
- Reduced balsamic or balsamic glaze
Method
If making oregano-infused oil:
- Combine olive oil, dried oregano, garlic powder, and sea salt in a small jar or glass container. Shake well and let sit at room temperature for a day or two so the flavors meld.
- Cut the mozzarella into cubes roughly the same size as the tomatoes.
- Toss the mozzarella and tomatoes with the infused oil in a bowl, stirring gently to coat.
- Serve the mix in a bowl or assemble onto toothpicks or skewers for easy serving.
If making balsamic-glazed skewers:
- Combine cherry tomatoes and mozzarella with about 2 tablespoons of balsamic glaze in a bowl and stir gently to coat.
- On each toothpick, layer a piece of mozzarella (wedge or ball), a basil leaf, and a tomato, then pierce to secure.
- Drizzle additional balsamic glaze over the assembled skewers just before serving for extra flavor and a glossy finish.
- Store any leftovers in the refrigerator and remove about 30 minutes before serving to bring them back toward room temperature. They’re best served fresh.
