Prohibition Brunch: Speakeasy-Inspired Weekend Menu & Tips

Brunch in Charleston has become fiercely competitive, with new brunch offerings popping up across the city and especially along King Street. Amid so many choices, Prohibition stands out immediately for one simple reason: it serves Saturday brunch in downtown Charleston in addition to the usual Sunday service.

Saturday service is a notable advantage, but it’s not the only thing that makes Prohibition memorable. The staff are upbeat and attentive, the space channeling speakeasy charm while remaining clean and well cared for, and the back porch is a real highlight. Bright and airy, the patio feels like a separate world compared with the darker main dining room and is ideal for a relaxed, sunny brunch.

Beyond atmosphere, the drinks and food deliver. Prohibition, long a happy hour favorite, brings that same inventive spirit to brunch cocktails—far beyond the standard mimosa, though those are available if you prefer. Two standout drinks from our visit were a Breakfast Milk Punch and a light, fruity Raspberry Peach Bellini—both dangerously drinkable even at 11 AM.

Prohibition Shrimp and Grits

The food menu mixes familiar brunch classics with local ingredients sourced from vendors known around Charleston. The shrimp and grits are among the best in town—rich, well-seasoned, and consistently satisfying. The brunch burger is another favorite, topped with a runny egg and hollandaise that make it feel appropriately breakfast-like despite its burger base.

Though not listed on the dedicated brunch cocktail list, the Aperol spritz from the regular menu was the perfect afternoon refresher on a sweltering day—light, effervescent, and ideal for sipping on the back patio.

TL;DR:

Prohibition pairs bluegrass background music that complements conversation with inventive cocktails and elevated versions of brunch classics. It offers both Saturday and Sunday brunch in downtown Charleston, but reservations are recommended to secure a table. The bar seating is attractive if you’re willing to wait for a spot, and the back patio provides a relaxed, stylish setting—part farmhouse-chic, part speakeasy—for daytime dining and drinks.
